Submission Guidelines

Or, how we decide what to include in this guide...

This guide is no longer being updated; no new websites have been added since January 1996. The following guidelines, however, are listed so that you may get an idea of what our criteria were.

NOTE: We will NOT include any advertisements or pointers to commercial sites wishing solely to promote their services to non-profits.

Individuals wishing us to include information about their particular organization in this guide may find these guidelines helpful. (Fellow librarians may view this as a very rough collection policy.)

First, this is not meant to be a comprehensive guide to all resources that non-profit public service organizations may use. We try to select the best of what's out there - the items we believe would be of significant use to the non-profit community. Naturally, not all resources will be applicable to everyone's needs. The resources we believe would be of use to all non-profits are placed in the "general sources" category.

Second, this guide is not a list of non-profit organizations; rather, it contains information of all categories that would be useful for non-profit organizations.

In particular, we are looking for resources that do one or more of the following:

Consequently, the following categories of resources will not be included:

Finally, while I welcome and appreciate links to this site, I will not use this fact in my decision as to whether to include a link to sites which point here. My decision will be based solely on the factors mentioned above and my own personal judgment. (sln 5/96)

We like hearing from individuals who have suggestions on new things to include (or on anything else, for that matter). If you'd like to propose that we include a particular site here, please e-mail us with the site's access information and a description on how you think the site would be useful to other non-profits. We'll then determine whether it fits the above criteria. Don't be offended if we decide not to include a suggested resource; due to the large quantity of information on this topic which is now available, we must be selective.
